Who we are, our values
The UK leader in environmental solutions, Veolia provides a comprehensive range of waste, water and energy management services designed to build the circular economy and preserve scarce raw materials.
As the waste management contractor for Camden Council we provide waste collections, street cleansing, winter maintenance, graffiti removal and customer services. We also work in close contact with Camden residents to provide social value to the local community. This year, we have committed to provide 30 work placements a year for local secondary school students.
Student work placement offer
The placement includes a week shadowing our employees in different teams.
Students will be assigned a ‘placement buddy’ who will mentor them throughout the week. The placement buddy will be the first point of contact for the students who will ensure their wellbeing during the work placement.
Each day students will support the work of our different teams, including; the Communications, Education and Outreach team; Call Centre; our Collection crews; the Street Cleansing crew; and our DART and Graffiti Removal crew.
The last day will be dedicated to learning how to write a CV and a cover letter, and getting ready for an interview.
The placement buddy as well as the other managers involved, will also provide a feedback for the school and the student highlighting where the placementees have proven excellent as well as where there is room for improvement.
Students will:
- Plan and produce written communications aimed at residents, including letters, emails and information materials. Communication is key in providing high standard services at all levels and coordinate the effort of all the teams involved.
- Practise IT skills, through preparing social media content, conducting online research and using our reporting software.
- Attend an outreach event (if we have one scheduled during this time) to get to know how we work with residents to improve their day-to-day services.
- Join our crews for practical experience of daily operations.
Develop a strategy for responding to a specific issue often faced by our ECO team.
Health and Safety
The Health & Safety of all our staff is our number one priority. In this particularly hazardous industry, it is vital that our procedures are of the highest possible standards to minimise and, where possible, remove risk.
On their first day, students will receive an induction, detailing H&S measures in place at our various sites and those to be constantly observed when carrying out a job.
Any required Personal Protective Equipment will be provided to students, who will be escorted by our teams throughout the placement.
